As I sipped my morning coffee, recovering from a long sick week and weekend, I found this article on the CNN Money page which confirmed my suspicion - being a professional photographer is not an easy job at all.
Most people crossing my path ask me about my camera and how cool it is to do what I do. The men in particular tend to envy the supposed glorious and glamorous job of photographing scantly clothed models. Little do they know about how much work goes into making those extraordinary shots.
Wedding photography, though, is the ultimate combination of photography, in both the best and the worst possible way.
As wedding photographers, we are responsible for an experience that isn't eligible for a "re-do." Much like a photojournalist, we can't recreate a moment.
We have clients to answer to just like a commercial photographer, but with serious responsibilities and repercussions.
Just like a portrait photographer we must create flattering and unique pictures based on the environment but we work on the fly and have little to no leftover time.
On the other hand, we also get to have the unique experience of documenting the intimate story between two people who will then cherish our products for years to come!
That, my friends, makes it all worth it... even if it means loosing a little bit of hair here and there. I kid.

Halloween 2009!
Last night, I had the only reason needed to dance: I was moonlighting as the emotionally wrecked wedding singer from The Wedding Singer. If you’re thinking, Matthew, that’s not scary, than you’re misinformed! In my profession there is nothing scarier than the person that will ruin a wedding. Can you imagine the entertainment throwing a fit? I imagine the groom’s reaction to be like Mos Def pictured below (Thanks MTO!).

As a guest that would be uncomfortable. I hope I’ll handle the situation better than MTV when Swift-gate went down!
While dancing a referee announced, "Good Game!” before spanking me—she was not official but she had me thinking, what have I accomplished? As the crazy wedding singer I clearly failed. I enjoy weddings too much.
As a photographer, however, I've foster my professional portfolio. I attended workshops, zealously documented sporting events, and with humility and grace, weddings. I can say I've got portraits and landscapes and semi-nude glamour shots. But man, I don’t have a shot like the one above! Hopefully, they’ll continue to evade me.
In the end, I took off my costume and scrubbed myself twice for good measure.
